2001, First work together
A common occurrence with businesses, the first work done together between the founders was from college. During the time spent in college and the time shortly thereafter, many of the services still available from Hartley were begun.

2003, Assembled
Two founders, Robert Bennett and Richard, met in college during their Junior years and began developing web applications for nearby businesses. The two dabbled in game design and spent the majority of their time repairing hardware and software when not creating web apps. From time to time, their business enlisted the help of others and a small team was assembled. Their proficiency and business grew for the following months until the end of college meant a parting ways.

2004, Founding
After a year pursuing individual goals, Robert and Richard met back up with co-founder, Valerie Hartley, and began to design their new organization. After resettling in and beginning to organize a client base, Hartley was formed.

2005, As an official business again
January 25th, 2005 saw the official incorporation of Hartley. These three founders who had worked together off and on for the past 4 years set sights on expansion.

2006, A word of 'game'?
In the beginning of that year, what started as a side project for Hartley, quickly became a recognized creation as the first game in the 'Survival Guide Universe' - a series of games based within a single storyline.

2006, Team grows
Since the founders came back together in late 2004, the Hartley team has grown and is preparing for a set of planned 'leaps' in the game and software industry.

The name 'Hartley'
A first idea name was something to do with the founder's three letter 'H's. Eventually, however, Hartley was decided upon because this name was shared as the middle name of the initial creator, Robert Hartley Bennett, and one of the other two founders, Valerie Hartley. Richard Holliday never felt left out, however, as the earlier variants of "3H" were unanimously deemed "silly."
